There are antennas at the toll stations that transmit a signal. If there is a Toll Box in the vehicle, the signal is sent back from the Toll Box to the toll station.
Toll Box is recognised
The toll station recognises that it is a Toll Box from maut1.de and sends us the corresponding toll transaction within approx. 4-6 weeks.
Invoice is created
We prepare these costs for you and send you an invoice for all toll crossings made. maut1.de takes care of billing the toll operators for you.

Where our ‘Small Toll Box’ can be used:
Toll Box for cars and vehicles up to 3 metres high
Italy: In Italy (Sicily only works with the ‘Small Toll Box Premium’), the ‘Small Toll Box’ can be used on all lanes of the motorways as well as on car parks and ferries marked with a yellow ‘T’.
France: In France, all lanes of the motorways (including FreeFlow systems) and car parks marked with a ‘T’ can be used with the ‘small Toll Box’.
Spain: In Spain, the ‘Small Toll Box’ can be used on all lanes of the motorways (including FreeFlow systems) as well as car parks marked with “Telepeaje”, ‘VIA-T’ or a ‘T’.
Portugal: In Portugal, it is sometimes only possible to pay the toll with the ‘small Toll Box’, whereby all lanes can be used.
Croatia: Croatia only works with the ‘Small Toll Box Premium’. In Croatia, all lanes marked with ‘ENC’ in the route network of the largest toll operator HAC can be used with the ‘Small Toll Box Premium’. This means all of Croatia except Istria.

Which vehicles is the ‘Small Toll Box’ suitable for?
This toll box (Standard & Premium) is suitable for vehicles up to 3 meters in height. These include:
Cars
Motorhomes (up to 3 m)
Vans and small transporters
It is not suitable for vehicles over 3 meters in height (e.g. trucks or large motorhomes). For these, you will need our toll box for motorhomes and vehicles over 3 meters in height.
How does the billing of toll fees work?
The toll fees are recorded automatically and charged via your stored payment method.
You will receive a clear invoice by email – completely hassle-free.Do I have to stop at toll stations?
No. With our toll box, you can use the designated toll lanes at the toll station. The barrier opens automatically.
Are there any additional costs for the toll box for vehicles up to 3 meters in height?
In addition to the actual toll charges, our service fee and activation fee as well as a monthly rental fee for the ‘Small Toll Box Premium’ and an annual rental fee for the ‘Small Toll Box Standard’ apply.

Can I use the ‘Small Toll Box’ for several vehicles?
Yes, you can. In your customer account, you can store multiple license plates.
We recommend changing the license plate at least 24 hours before your planned journey so that it is activated in all toll systems along the way.

Contract information
You can use your ‘Small Toll Box’ for as short or as long as you like. If you no longer need the ‘Small Toll Box’, simply return it (with tracking) to the following address:

We will only charge the fees incurred up to that point.
If you keep the ‘Small Toll Box’ for longer than one year, the contract will be extended for a further year. The monthly rental fee for the ‘Kleine Toll Box Premium’ or the annual rental fee for the ‘Kleine Toll Box Standard’ covers the provision of the ‘Kleine Toll Box’, but not the individual toll charges. The toll charges incurred when driving through the toll stations are separate costs and are charged additionally. You do not have to do anything else. We will invoice all toll charges incurred on your journey via your registered payment method.
